Deadly Tahoe storm drops over 5 feet of snow in 3-day stretch

The storm has gone a long ways to helping the snowpack, especially in the southern Sierra, but it is still a lower than average year so far.  When I posted last (pre-storm), the snowpack was at 53% of normal for the date, 38% of the whole season average. It is now 72% of normal for the date, 56% of the whole season average, so the storm basically dumped 18% of what we typically get in a season over the span of less than a week.  That’s a lot, but is not by itself going to get things back to normal, and if the rest of the season is dry, it will be a disappointing season.

Good news is that I think some more snow is expected next week.  Not nearly as much as this last storm, but every little bit helps.
