Stanford played 8 matches this season against teams seeded in the top 16 in the NCAA tournament. The collective score in those 8 matches was 6-35. They were 0-8 in doubles. 6-27 in the singles matches that were completed. This team was pretty far from being a top 16 team. Winning a round in the NCAAs was as far as they were going to go.
The future is murky. Will Glozman return? Will the 3 freshmen return? Will Alexis Blokhina return and will she be healthy? She is enrolled at Stanford and planned to play on the team this spring until she was derailed by an injury (I think it was an ACL). Hope springs eternal, but I am concerned that the better teams in women's college tennis have accelerated away from Stanford and I am not sure if they can catch up.
