Then why write University after GaTech?

and FYI, it is the University of Notre Dame not Notre Dame University

Massachusetts Institute of Technology is MIT
California Institute of Technology is CalTech
Carnegie Mellon is, in fact, CMU. 
I could go on, but nah.

Louisiana Tech University = LaTech

I think any true sports fans are aware of these shorthand monikers.
