I tend to agree that he will be drafted but if so there will be no guaranteed money on the table. It also wouldn't surprise me at all if he weren't drafted. There are probably teams willing to look at him as an UDFA because that costs them only the time they spend trying to make an asset out of him. Using a draft pick OTOH gives up another potential player. Given where Sorsby is in his development and with his additional baggage it is arguably not worth it.

The NFL CBA includes a guarantee for all players selected in the NFL Draft. For example, a player drafted in the middle of the third round receives a bonus of approximately $1.5M.

Unfortunately I wasn't as clear as I should have been. What I meant was that I really doubted he would be a first round pick. Therefore there almost certainly would be no guaranteed money in his contract going forward. That is important to the team because guaranteed money in the contract becomes "dead money" if a player doesn't work out and is released. IMO no team is going to put themselves in a position to take even a modest dead money cap hit to get Sorsby. The probability of him not making the team is just too high. You are of course correct that all players who get drafted receive an immediate one-time bonus proportional to their draft position.
