Mick you would know better than I would but I think in the 80s Bellermine was still housing students. Especially athletes they recruited from afar

I didn't go there -- my sons, cousins, father, uncles and father-in-law were students there -- but they boarded when I was in high school through 1980, and closed the program shortly after I left in the 1983 through 1985 time frame. Peaked at 240 boarding students.

I don't know about the athlete part. THe prominent athletes with whom I am familiar all came from this general area. I know BCP sought regional diversity. Their boarding students came from afar; e.g., SoCal students like Bing Crosby's kids went to high school there. It was mainly about geographic diversity from what I gather.  Bellarmine’s boarders included boys from throughout California—from agricultural communities in the Central Valley, smaller Northern California towns and Southern California—as well as Alaska, Hawaii and Nevada. By the 1970s, they hosted students from Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines, MExico, Anchorage, Honolulu, Kowloon, Kobe, Quezon City and Cananea, Sonora. THey may have had a smattering of Iranian/Persian students after the shah fell, like my high school in Santa Cruz did.
