I didn't take great notes, and I welcome corrections and clarifications to what I gleaned:
John articulated 3 core pillars to the way forward: 1) Put student athletes at the center; 2) Embrace the modern landscape "in a Stanford way"; and 3) Build a sustainable financial model. This was a high-level presentation, as opposed to a detailed list of action items, goals, and deadlines.
The DAPER view is to divide the programs into 3 areas: 1) Football; 2) Men's & Women's Basketball; and 3)"Olympic Sports" (i.e., everything else).
The approach to a sustainable financial model for Olympics Sports is to fund them [scholarships; coaching positions; facilities] via endowments.
For the other two areas, he expects to use the approach of paying players via the $21+ million pool [75-80% to FB; 10-15% MBB; 5% WBB; 5% Olympic Sports]; additional privately-funded $$$ to make overall "payroll' competitive with other Power-4 programs; NIL opportunities [which can't be handled within the university structure]; and professional internship/mentorship opportunities that the Stanford alumni network might be able to provide student athletes. Improving the Football program to a top-30-program level is an urgent goal.
I hate people when they're not polite
