There are lots of examples. The away vs home results since joining the ACC, the WSoccer match this weekend, etc. Even the 49era-Rams game result was widely attributed to the effects of travel. 

Unfortunately it is hard to put these stats together. Until the last few years, there weren’t so many matches that you could look at the effect on teams throughout the year. But Stanford and Cal made a 30 year commitment to providing those numbers. 

Still, it is going to be hard to compare eastward vs westward travel. Even if there were good stats, the polls, the rankings , and the won-loss record will still burn the team traveling multiple time zones for half its games versus the teams that do it for just two games.

The Niners/Rams was a good experiment.  Rams were, at least on paper, supposed to be better.  Both were California teams, nearly equal distance to Melbourne.  Niners arrived early, allowed their body clocks to adjust.  Rams arrived late, left their body clocks in California time.  Niners beat the Rams quite easily.

Sample size = 1, so you don't want to over-extrapolate on that basis.  Maybe if they play 9 more times, the Rams win 6 of them.  But fairly instructive.
