If so, what's changed?Check out Theo Baker’s book. It’s available on Amazon /Kindle. What constitutes “social activity” on the Farm these days is pretty damn depressing.
My kid is a freshman this year. He's only been on campus three weeks but he has gone to parties and events every day.
My close friends have a kid who graduated right when Covid hit and another who was in school during Covid.
My impressions from talking to my kid, my friends' kids, and their friends:
- Stanford was probably more fun when we were there decades ago mostly because students nowadays are more focused (they have LinkedIn pages in high school)
- The "Stanford hates fun" movement in 2022 is hard to separate from the impact Covid had on campus life and on the kids themselves
- Life on campus has just about recovered to what it was like before Covid
- Theo Baker's book talks about the experience of a very specific subset of kids, as he himself says in the book
