Once tried to sign up for a fencing class at Stanford. The lady with custody of the sign-up sheet just laughed. You had to sleep in line outside the Old Pavilion the night before registration to have a shot.

Anybody know if the Old Pavilion still exists?

Yes it does. It's now called Burnham Pavilion, home of a number of PE classes and offices for some coaches. The men's volleyball team plays about half its matches in Burnham.

Much as I hate those AT&T U-verse commercials where the 12-year-old tells a bunch of 8-year-olds how much tougher he/she had it back in the day -- that's exactly how I feel when I contemplate being able to register on line instead of standing IN line at Mem Aud or Old Pavilion...
