In terms of ridiculous public funding of a pro sports team, everything pales in comparison to what the Bengals pulled off with Hamilton County. Basically, the County paid for a new stadium and pick up all the operating costs and the Bengals get a sweatheart lease deal, get the parking revenue and usually put a crap product on the field.Â
I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, this will keep the Bengals in Cincinnati. On the other hand, part of me wishes the Bengals would move so I could sever emotional ties to this hopeless franchise and its idiot owner. Actually Mike Brown is not an idiot. He's a good businessman. I'm sure the Bengals are among the most profitable franchises because of this deal and how cheap he is with players and costs (other than putting his entire family on the payroll).
