I think without a doubt we should extend the offer, and have Rosen make the decision, regardless of the depth issues. This would be the case with any 5-star recruit who has the academic profile to fit Stanford. Football is a violent sport, injuries happen, so today's depth chart might be tomorrow's "retired" due to damage inflicted by the sport (see Geoff Meinken for an example of an athlete who's injuries occurred mostly on the practice field). Also, people transfer (no guarantee that all the QBs on the list will be here in a year or two), or simply don't pan out as expected.
While I think we should always extend offers to any recruit who is A) probably the best at his position in the nation and B) can get through the admissions process, this is particularly true at the QB position, the most important single position on the football field. If Rosen and Chryst both end up on the roster and competing for the position, and the loser of the competition chooses to move on, then so be it. Both young men understand the nature of the beast that is big-time college football. The football team, and all of us fans, will be the beneficiary of the whole process.
