It used to be that fans in the SEC could not comprehend why kids from the South would want to play anywhere else but the SEC.  Now, at least in the linked thread, they seem to regard Stanford football credible and the academics as a credible reason to opt for the West Coast.

It's a great point. I can't say I have any insight into the football prejudices of HS football players in general and those from the southern hotbed in particular. But if the hardcore fans of a traditional SEC power who have BCS hopes (even if they are exaggerated) can respect the thought process that would lead one of their top recruits to pick Stanford over them, that's got to say something for the esteem Stanford has developed in HS football recruiting.
