Fair enough, Redrum. I have a hard time keeping up with the current two-deep, let alone remembering the 3rd and 4th string. (with notable exception for players with the same first and last name as NFL hall of famers.) If I've learned anything about recruiting over the past 5 years (I didn't really follow it closely before then) it's that there are no guarantees, but the more stars the better, and refilling depth on the OLine and Dline is critical. I view the rumor that Spain is leaning towards Stanford to be more important than Chryst committing, except in that Chryst may pull some other guys. Chryst may never play a meaningful down, as we saw with Nottingham, but top OLine recruits, especially with our jumbo package, are almost certainly going to play a role in the two-deep.

I agree with FarmBoy.  My reaction to Chryst's announcement was more relief than excitement.  Stanford is Quarterback U.  We will always get great quarterbacks unless a total buffoon or idiot is at the helm.  If we didn't get Chryst, we would have gotten Rosen.  If we don't get Rosen, we'll get the Messiah, etc.  :P  It's a team sport.  Sure QB is the most important position, but you still need quality players at all positions to accomplish what has not been accomplished in the modern era by Stanford.

Hopefully Chryst will pull other guys. QB is the leadership position. I recall Ryan Burns admitting that he wasn't getting involved in recruiting other members of his class.  In this social media age, the players that are would be leaders are doing it at other programs.  And did for us in that 2012 class.  This class seems rich in academically qualified football players.

Right now, the fortunes of Stanford's football recruiting seem to depend most on the number of academically qualified players available at given positions than anything else.
