4.43 GPA on a four point scale?  How does that even happen?!?  I've heard of an extra .3 for honors classes, etc but how do you get an extra 0.5? Are there standards for scoring this?

At my kids' high school, weighted classes (AP, honors and college dual credit) were worth 125% of regular classes, so a weighted A was worth 5 points instead of 4, a weighted B was worth 3.75 instead of 3, and a weighted C got you 2.50 instead of 2. Pluses and minuses also added values to the grade (weighted and regular classes) when factoring into the GPA. The system was set up to reward the more ambitious students who wanted to take more challenging coursework without the fear that a less-than-perfect performance would hurt their GPA and subsequent class standing.
