After reading that Farrar story by Drukarev (who is KILLING it on his recruiting coverage), I'm gonna say he's committed to Vandy.  Anyone who wants to compare Vandy as an par with Stanford academically or on the football field is convincing himself or trying to convince others Vandy is as good a choice as Stanford.  Throw in the bit about the Vandy coaches, and it's a clincher for me.

Vandy may be the best choice for Farrar, in terms of comfort level, etc., but Vandy doesn't stack up to Stanford academically or on the gridiron.  Its achivements are solid and it's surely a very good school, but to suggest it is on par with Stanford on these scores is just silly.

My guess is he likes the Stanford academics/athletics combination, but just doesn't want to go that far from home, so he is trying to convince himself a closer school is just as good.

Distance is definitely a factor for many kids here in the Southeast. It certainly was for the local HS kid here in Tallahassee (his coach played HS football with my sons) who was offered by Stanford but just chose FSU.
