He had to have two surgeries. In the first, they put in titanium screws to hold the knee cap together while it healed. In the second, they removed the screws. He was able to walk a week or two after the first surgery with a special splint. They didn't put him in a cast for some reason. The next year he tried out for basketball, but sucked at it. There has been no lasting physical or emotional problems.
