I remember Pride and Joy! Big dance review, right? The Bay Area had several similar bands in the 1980s. I was a brobdingnagian fan of the Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra which became Big Bang Beat. Saw them several times at the New Varsity along with my favorite Bay Area band Bonnie Hayes and the Wild Combo. I basically took half a day away from work one afternoon to track down the only copy of the Bonnie Hayes album Good Clean Fun that I could find in the City. Point and click on iTunes or Amazon does not yield the same feeling of satisfaction.
