I think the issue that I have with being skeptical of him choosing Arkansas is that Stanford traditionally only loses recruits to a local program. It recruits nationally and when someone turns that down, it is usually to go to a big name in-state program (Nelson in Iowa and Spain in NC come to mind).
That said, the undergraduate population is full of students who leave behind serious GF/BFs to get the advantages that Stanford offers. After all the academic work that Thomas has put in, I don't think he is going to give that up.
