Right, I never really answered that. Well, basically, it's this: for years, I made first accountants and then lawyers rich. I ran sales and marketing for two large law firms. At the time I asked about the Pacific Northwest and Houston, which was the locales of two large law firms that I was considering. Along about that time, I had two heart-to-heart talks; one with my wife, in which Mrs. Mick indicated an extreme desire to stay in the SF Bay Area if at all possible. Second heart to heart talk was with myself in which I considered the desireability of making yet another group of attorneys rich.
Right about that time, I had an interesting job consulting with a midsized public tech company that wanted to fire its NYC-based law firm. I walked the GC through the process with all the minefields, and at the end, he advised me to go into business for myself working for clients seeking to optimize their relationships with their law firms and reduce their overall legal fee burden.
So I did. I stayed in the Bay Area. When my youngest departs for Princeton, Mrs. Mick and I will most likely move to the Aptos/Seascape/Rio Del Mar/Capitola area.
