There's a domino effect to QBs. With other positions, there's a strong opportunity for multiple starters or extended playing time even if one doesn't start. That's not the case with the QB position, where's there's no real opportunity if someone cements themselves (see Nunes and Nottingham).

Because the QB recruit is often the marquee recruit in a class, and because there's usually only one, once one of the top guys commits, there's a ripple effect with other guys falling into place. That's why the top 15-20 guys are wrapped up by the middle of the summer.
