Two sides of the same coin, and both forces are more than likely at play. Your scenario also provides David Shaw yet another opportunity to take the high road and challenge his industry to do "the right thing" in the best interest of kids, rather than coaches.Â
I don't think a 17 yo would take it upon himself to pressure a coach, let alone one like Shaw, to extend an offer earlier than he feels comfortable. Of course, Stanford could always make an offer conditional on attendance at the Stanford camp, and basically placate the kid whilst also getting what it wants to see, namely Wimbush at a Stanford camp. If he balks at that, Stanford should just move on and not waste any more time on the kid.
