In 2009 when Nunes signed, Stanford offered both Matt Barkley and Garrett Gilbert, both of whom were ranked above Nunes.  Stanford also signed Taysom Hill in that class (who subsequently signed with BYU after serving his mission) and Darren Daniel (who transferred to Alabama State).

In 2010 when Nottingham signed (Dallas Lloyd was also a QB in that class), Stanford offered Connor Wood (Texas) and Anthony Gonzales (Pitt) who were ranked ahead of Nottingham (at least by Scout).

But we don't really know who the coaches favored among the QBs they offered.  The coaches don't really talk about recruits who go other places.  However in each class the coaches already had a commitment from another QB when Nunes and Nottingham decided to sign with Stanford.
