Yes, but Andrew Luck was a once-in-a-decade college player whose potential and development arc were different from Hogan. I'm not a fan of running down the performance of guys who sack up and compete to be starters. Hogan has won his starting role fairly and has delivered for us. But although he has "areas for improvement" , it doesn't seem likely that the future Hogan actually will be dramatically better than the current Hogan. He is doing what coaches can fairly ask of their players: performing to the best (or nearly so) of his capabilities.
Stanford's problem is we don't have a strong roster of backups right now. They seem -- and likely are--either limited or too inexperienced. I hope Chryst develops enough to knock Hogan out of the starting job based on achievement and obvious higher ceiling. But I think Shaw will have his "finger on the scale" to tip the balance in favor of his most experienced QB.
