The point of the wildcat is not to win by deceiving the opposing team. The point of the wildcat is to enable you to use one additional blocker in the play. In conventional plays, with a QB handing off to a RB, you have 9 blockers, 1 rusher, and the QB, going up against 11 defenders. In the wildcat, you dispense the QB and have 10 blockers and 1 rusher or 9 blockers and 2 potential rushers.
There are some plays, for example play action, where the goal is to create a mismatch by having the defense think one thing (rush) when you execute another, thereby keeping the defenders out of position and giving your receivers an inside edge. There are other plays, Power comes to mind, where there is no deception involved, but rather by pulling the Guard, you create a mismatch in terms of sheer number of blockers at the point of attack.
I believe that you should have both types of plays; plays that rely on deception to create wide open opportunities, and plays where you create a mismatch through execution and blocking at the point of attack.
