Irwin also made first team All-American WR for MaxPreps! The only WR since my time at Stanford who might compare as a high school prospect would be Ken Margerum. He was very highly regarded coming out of Fountain Valley High School in Orange County. It's hard to compare Iriwn and Margerum, though, because I can't find any high school football player rankings that far back, and the only high school all-american team that I could find for 1977 (Parade) does not have any wide receivers on it. He must have been pretty good. In 1988, the LA Times listed him as the best HS WR of the prior 20 years. Also on that list was Chris Dressel, Emile Harry, Terry Albritton (Went the shotput route at Stanford), John LaGrandeur, Vin Mulroy, Andy Sinclair and Bo Boxold...all Stanford recruits
