Alanna finally get warm and hits a couple treys.  But 64-64 at the final official timeout.  Well, the last five minutes = the game.

We these impressionable refs, it seems like the advantage will go to the home team.

LOL. Worse bitching than those calling out Shaw for time management.

Where was the 3-second call on about 6 seconds in the lane?

[edit: This forum splices two separate posts together....]

That ["offensive" foul, fouling out Alanna] was called on Alanna when she was on defense earlier!
Do we foul early?

Bitching about refs. But we needed to play better too.

What did you think of the offensive foul on Alanna?

Our three point defense is a direct result of the loss of Fingall and Dodson.  We need to sag and collapse in the paint to protect Smith from getting fouls which leaves three point shooters open.

If we win  out the conference regular season, we still have the #1 seed at the conference tournament.

Wrong!  (What was I thinking?)

The PAC-12 WBB schedule this year this year starts to smell like the SEC.  Most of the top teams each play each other only once, except for the rivalry games.  The Utah plays  Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State, Cal  only once.  Stanford and Cal play  Utah, Oregon, Oregon State only once.  Oregon and Oregon State play Stanford, Utah, Cal only once.
Poor ASU plays Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, Cal, and Utah twice.

If Stanford wins out (beating Oregon, OSU), Oregon will have at least one loss, and Oregon State will have at least 2 losses.
If Oregon wins out other than a loss to Stanford (ie, beating Utah), all 3 teams would have 1 loss (assuming no other losses).
If Utah beats Oregon, we need someone else to beat Utah.

Whatever you think of any individual call, there really was no consistency by these refs.  That last charge on Alanna was extremely questionable, with the game on the line I don't think many refs would have called it.  But the game was lost because Tara's scouting report defense could not account for a defensive specialist (Bean) scoring 23 points and going 5/8 from three point range.  We needed to adjust to defend her better, and we did not.  She was open even at the end of the game.

I have never liked the rule change now 15 or more years ago when the player with the ball is driving and contact is called always on defender. That 5th cal on Smith was a rule change made up by the refs.

That said we didn't deserve to win. We shot 38%. Bean with 23 points and averaged 6 or so. Bean with 5 hrees after 4 for the season.

Frickin balls at attitude. :)
Three seconds in the key could have been called 8-10 times or more on Edwards but ignored.

Love Tara. Right up there with Newell and Woolpert in Bay Area history. She will have the team ready for the tournament which these days is all that matters in college basketball.

As a grumpy codger I hate that the regular season in many sports has been devalued. ESPN is already foaming at the mouth over the 2020 football championship. Aside from the Stanford 6-0 upset over Hopalong Cassidy and THE Ohio State in 1955 my most exciting sports memory is the 1959 pennant race between the Giants, Dodgers And Braves. As the manager says in The Natural, “I don’t give a damn about the Series I wanted to win the pennant more than anything else.”

Sadly, nobody cares anymore.

We tend to lose in pretty predictable ways.  If Smith gets in foul trouble, we need to collapse our defense to protect her which leads to wide open threes for the other team.  If they hit them fairly well, then we are in trouble and vulnerable to losing.  Pretty much the story of this game.

We kept collapsing into the paint and then leaving a wide-open 3 on the perimeter, I'm not sure how many of those were Bean shots, but that was a bad deja vu over and over again

Apparently the PAC-12 went out and bought someone's (Learfield?) service to provide audio for the game -- At least that's why I think Stanford screws over KZSU and its student broadcasters by providing & advertising (on  GoStanford.com) a different audio.

I wonder whether there are more listeners that follow the opposing team than follow the home team.

Between this audio cast and the TV coverage of the previous game, I noticed that the announcers mentioned & covered injuries to the home team but failed to mention them for the visiting team.  Did I miss that? Does anyone remember either the Colorado TV or the Utah audio  broadcasters mention who wasn't playing for Stanford?  I certainly remember them highlighting home team injuries.

But we have only lost twice. Theres not a " tend to"  or trend there

Utah announcers in pregame talked about our 3 injured players.

Notre Dame got upset today too. Unranked UNC got them 78-73. ND had a key player out with injury.

The media tells you what is important, and then media only gives you what they find profitable.
Then the media starts telling the teams  (college  & pro) what is important.
Next thing you know, you've got Larry Scott  controlling things for the PAC-12, and the conference tournaments move to a non-conference city.

I've got the post mortem done at the top.

Congrats to Erika Bean, who played the game of her life.
