I think even after the switch to the Princeton it's still the case that Stanford's sets mostly use two posts and three perimeter players. So the 1 is point guard, the 2/3 are basically the same position even though 3 is often called "small forward", and the 4/5 are pretty much the same, although the 5 will more often be in the low post, depending partly on shooting range.
A tall player with guard skills might play 3/4, but that requires learning a lot more since 3 and 4 are so different. Haley Jones could do it as a freshman -- in fact she could play 1/3/4! -- but not everyone is that quick a learner.
