This "grizzled veteran" had 420 posts in the last 2 weeks (1180 in a month), while the sports board had 1340 (3280 in a month).   So roughly as many posts as each of FB, WBB, and MBB.  I presume we aren't ready to call those grizzled veterans that are a shell of their former selves?

Scratch that reason.  Was it the moderation load, with only two reading it?

This board has been a great resource, especially early on. Having folks like BC around is a rare and special thing.

The signal to noise ratio has diminished somewhat as the pandemic has drawn in the toxic brew of our current national politics, and to be honest I think a subscription to the NYT, Wapo, or your local paper can give you most of the insight you can find here at this point in the pandemic. Here's what it's like in LA now, don't need me to tell ya-

Thanks to the mods and the posters. Hopefully we can all find a good use of the time otherwise spent here.

Thank you to the doctors and smart folks who contributed to this board. It helped me feel informed during a very scary time. Thank you especially for your thoughts and explanations regarding ACE receptors and my mom’s blood pressure medication

Hey folks, sorry to chime in at the last minute- really busy past week at work. (Yes, Xmas week, sigh.)

To contextualize a bit, closing this board had been up for discussion among the admins and mods for a while; I think the admins, in particular, are keen to run a sports board, and among the mods, I suspect I was probably the one most in favor of keeping this board open, but also the one without the time to do an adequate job reading and moderating rather than just doing drive-by Terry Rule invocations when they happened to come to my attention.

So, I, too, am sad it will be closing, sadder still that nearly 9 months after it opened we're STILL no where near the end of this, and especially grateful for the many, many, many helpful posts, insights, links, debates, etc.

And FWIW, if folks aren't able to settle on a workaround board before midnight tonight, I'm sure we'd all be glad to have one thread on the sports board that exists *solely* to hash out the details of a new COVID board. If that happens, though, PLEASE do not start discussing COVID "on the merits" or we will close it and that will be it.

Thanks, and happy new year. May it be a better one than the one we've just survived...

We’re at peak Covid and the vaccines are just coming online.  This is a most misopportune time to declare “mission accomplished” for such a useful resource. Wait a minute, aren’t the troops now fighting the biggest battles of this war?

On the other hand, whatever the real reason, “Your board, Your rules”, and if it reminds me of our favorite Buddy claiming his team won the first half in a game that lasted 60 minutes rather than 30 then it’s still been a great resource while it lasted.

Thanks for hosting a forum that many of us depended upon and also showed how Stanford fans are truly unique.

In 1938 Neville Chamberlain declared "Peace in our time", Superman first appeared in Action Comics, Seabiscuit beat War Admiral ....... and C.a.l last won the Rose Bowl.

Your board, your rules but declaring it’s time had passed is patently untrue.  Reminds me of Buddy claiming the football team won the first half.

However, thanks for the forum while it lasted!
