I'd classify Demetre as a shooter who happens to be a very good penetrator with a strong inside game, aided by what looks like 6-4 or more length.

She basically plays a kind of combo guard/wing/post up four for Matre Dei.

An intriguing prospect--a legit 2, 3, 4.

Demetre is a wing. Like the Hulls. Drives rebounds shouts and makes threes

I assume Mendelson is Maggie Mendelson.   First I heard about her.   Hambly better be recruiting her.

https://www.standard.net/sports/high-sch...50c0d.html

“According to PrepVolleyball.com, Mendelson is rated as the No. 2 prospect in the nation in the class of 2023.”

“ESPN’s class of 2023 rankings has Mendelson as the No. 21 player in the country.”

“Mendelson already had a few volleyball offers before the rule change, but there’s been plenty of basketball coaches helping their volleyball counterparts in recent months.   She’s had a few Zoom calls with basketball coaches who’ve talked about how good that school’s basketball program is before pivoting and talking about the volleyball program, almost like the volleyball coach is in the same room off-camera and holding a poster board with talking points.”

what about on defense? i ask because right now we have 4 lightning-quick defenders: kiana, anna, hulls x 2 can all hound the opponent's top guards. is brooke quick enough to do that? in a year all 4 will be gone. hannah and jana seem competent on d but without that elite quickness.

Good. It's been far too quiet on the court lately.

Now all of the commits can start working on Juju Watkins for the class of 2023.

So now that she has committed to Stanford, how long until she is downrated and is no longer the #1 recruit in the country.

Fantastic news! and yes, UConn fans already downplaying her skills. Their loss. The 40 year decision looms larger during pandemic!

Brooke is not as effective on defense.  Not quick enough to guard quick guards or a quick wing--a la Lexie--not big/strong enough to move down into the post despite her height and length.  She'll be assigned to defend the weaker of the two wings on Stanford's opponents.

To my eyes, Jana looked quick enough on defense---much quicker than Hannah.  It was noticeable to me; I was surprised how much pressure she put on Oregon's guards.

Rice has Hull/Kiana quickness.
Not sure about Harriel but she's certainly fast.

I know I am a bit late to the party here, but just wanted to add my two cents.

This is fantastic news. I wasn't expecting any developments for Class of '22 recruits for a few more months, but to get this announcement now and for the #1 recruit is awesome.

Imagine, in the '22-'23 season, we could have 3 top-3 recruits (Brink, Jones and Betts) out on the floor at the same time, including two #1s.

Our frontcourt that season with Brink, Betts, Belibi and Prechtel will be incredibly deep and talented. On the defensive end, it will be shot blocking galore plus 20 fouls to give and on the offensive end, Tara will have the resources to match up based on the opponent. Witness how well having Kalani Brown and Lauren Cox in the paint worked out for Baylor a couple years ago.

As others have brought up, hopefully we'll be able to match this recruiting luck on the guards side. Our Achilles heel during the Ogwumike era was quick guards who could match up with opposing guards (I still have nightmares of Texas A&M's Colston and Carter in the '11 semis) and with Bueckers and Fudd in Storrs for the next few years and Wilson, Williams and the Hulls graduating soon, we'll need to replenish those positions too.

Fantastic news! Betts announced her top N the longest ago of her class, with N=9 in her case, and there are more recruits who have Stanford on their list than we have slots. So I had already been worrying that she might have quietly dropped Stanford!

Quote:What this means for Stanford?

Charlotte Carroll, Connecticut beat writer: Stanford is loaded with the addition of Betts. The Cardinal has landed two other top-3 prospects since 2019: Haley Jones, who was the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2019, and Cameron Brink, who was No. 3 in 2020. There's also four other top 20 prospects who committed to Stanford in that span. Stanford, No. 1 in the AP Poll, are 10-0 and have been dominating with a most recent win over Oregon in which Jones recorded 18 points and six rebounds.

So excited about Betts' commitment.  We still have room for another big as we only recruited two bigs in our '20 and '21 classes.  However, the three bigs we have are a great trio.  Brink, Iriafen and Betts are all very mobile and very long.  They will be very intimidating from a shot blocking perspective and we will likely see opponents change or not even attempt shots because of the concern of getting blocked.
