A few notes on the 2021 Stanford Football Personnel grid.

1.  Obviously I could not decide whether to do a grid according to eligibility or class, so I did both. I put the grid by class year first simply because it is looks cleaner. Not sure which is more useful. Let me know; I'm happy to tweak.

2.  To the 2020 Stanford Football Personnel grid, I have added 23 players
     a.  The 23-person incoming “CardClass21”
     b.  If we have more additions, I will add them as well

3.  From the 2020 Stanford Football Personnel grid, I have removed 18 players
     a.  Fifteen who graduated and declined to return
          1)  Five fifth-year players who have declared for the draft; possible UDFAs
                 ==> TE Scooter Harrington, DE Thomas Schaffer, ILB Curtis Robinson, S Malik Antoine, K Jet Toner
          2)  Two fifth-year players, retiring from football
                 ==> CB Treyjohn Butler, S J.J. Parson
          3)  Four seniors who declared for the NFL draft; likely drafted
                 ==> QB Davis Mills, WR Connor Wedington, OT Foster Sarell, C Drew Dalman
          4)  One senior, retiring from football
                 ==> WR Osiris St. Brown
          5)  Two walk-on seniors seeking transfers
                 ==> OLB Caleb Phillips (University of Hawaii), TE Kyle McCombs
          6)  One walk-on senior, retiring from football
                 ==> OG Jake Koffman
     b.  One junior who declared for the NFL draft; likely drafted
          ==> WR Simi Fehoko
     c.  One sophomore who has elected to transfer
          ==> DE Joshua Pakola
     d.  One walk-on freshman who has retired from football
          ==> ILB Anson Pulsipher

4.  Other seniors who opted out of the 2020 season
     ==> OT Walker Little is a significant NFL draft prospect
     ==> CB Paulson Adebo is a significant NFL draft prospect
     ==> S Stuart Head is transferring to Appalachian State
     ==> Walk-on DE Dylan Boles is transferring to Northern Iowa

5.  When a player is rostered at two positions, I have listed them according to the position named on the front side of the slash. For instance, if a player is rostered as offensive tackle/guard, I have listed them as a tackle. The only exception to this rule is if a player ends up getting more playing time at the position named at the backside of the slash, for instance, if a tackle/guard ends up playing guard, I switch them to guard in the grid (the Devery Hamilton Rule).

6.  I have removed all injury designations, though I realize that some players are still injured. This is a projection for the fall, when I am hoping we will have a healthy roster, though recent history suggests it will be otherwise. I have also removed the "other positional responsibilities" (holder, nickelback, returns) designations until those are established.

7.  You will note that I have projected starters marked for some positions, but not others. I have only marked starters at positions where I think we are reasonably sure who the starters will be. I am happy to designate starter status to players if and when it seems we are reasonably sure who the starter will be, e.g., it is announced by coaches, a possible starter transfers leaving an obvious candidate, an injury or poor spring performance removes a player from consideration, etc.

8.  As always, I appreciate any corrections or input.

-m.

Langdude, love the charts. Didn't realize that Anson Pulsipher was no longer listed on the team. I don't see Matthew Moore, a PWO Offensive Lineman, listed on the chart. He is coming back from an LDS mission for 2021.

Man, the hole at linebacker is gaping.  WE have one non-walkon outside linebacker in three years.  If key OLB's don't come back for a fifth year next year, we will be in deep doo doo.  WE are in bad shape too inside, but it looks not as bad just by virtue of comparison to OLB.

DT also looks... not good.

The roster is a horror show. No pass catching tight end, no outstanding safety, one decent corner, the aforesaid LB and DL lack of depth, hardly any experience at QB, a depleted WR group. Strengths at OL, FB and experience and speed at RB. Musts are that somebody or somebodies have to surprise, the O has to feature some time consuming drives and the tall lefty QB has to be as good as advertised. Reid, Damuni, Umerah and the Foxes can’t get hurt and the DB coach has to get off his duff and coach up the safeties.

I don't share the level of panic.  I think we have a lot of young talent at CB perhaps the most Stanford has had. ILB is not in dire straits. Damuni, Sinclair, DiCosmo and Ubre have 3-4 years of eligibility left.  We will be able to field 2 good ILB's even after the oft-injured but talented Miezan and JMF depart. Damuni appears to be a budding star.  I think at least one of our young TEs (yurosek?) will be a productive pass catcher.  The concerns at DL and OLB are real.

Never panic, just reality. Too many ifs in your post. Young talent at CB? Who besides Kelly has done anything? Same at ILB and hope you are correct about Damuni but so far he's been just serviceable. Looks like true freshmen will have to provide depth on the DL and there is only one four star among them. Novena re health is in order all across the board.

I heard he's going on a LDS mission and will be back after.

I think STM looked pretty good when he appeared midseason. Not blinding speed but good tackler and tough.  Also agree Damuni may be a rising star. After not having played, he was excellent at finding the ball, good enuf tackler, good hands, and good at avoiding injury. The recruiting holes do kinda stand out.

Wasn't sure where this would go, and didn't think it merited its own thread... but Johnson got admitted to grad school.

Good to hear. Not sure how long it will take him to get through that program but it could provide motivation to come back for a sixth year in fall of 2022. He hasn't been a major contributor to date, but given our lack of depth on DL, he is pretty important.

So we have Boles to UNI and Head to App State. No one else is transferring? That seems... unlikely.

If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)

Why is that unlikely. Hope you realize that in August last year after all the transfers we had 83 on scholarship
