Shaw is a complete asshole. Take away the TD pass to Patterson and Nunes' stats were terrible. Any other coach would have tried Hogan AND Nottingham by now. Beating WaSu by 7 with our D is unacceptable.

The theory that the coaches are trying to transition to Hogan is not exactly disproven. But, if that's the plan, my god, rip the band-aid, guys. That effort, right there? Not acceptable.

I'm abroad, so I cannot actually see the game directly and have been following them through the internet.  But, my impression is that Hogan has been coming in to run the "Hogan Package" of plays.  If that is the case, I wouldn't consider a QB coming in to run only a few limited plays a real extended look.  We need to see what Nottingham or Hogan can do running something close to the full package (or, whatever they can handle, given the fact that Nunes has been given the lion's share of the reps with the first team).

Agreed. As an alum, what's more troubling than the fact he's not a qualified D1 coach is that he lacks the traits I expect of a Stanford alum -- introspection, self-analysis, humility...

That's fair. Primarily, that was the case. But Hogan took a (pretty bad) seven yard sack on a normal dropback, IIRC. Am I wrong? Someone with a better memory tell me.

That's correct. As far as I can recall, it was the only dropback snap Hogan has taken.

I believe Hogan took some dropback snaps against the 59ers in that garbage-time final drive.

But yes, experience on that is minimal and the sack suggests it might be a roller-coaster ride, if Hogan is indeed the real #2.

Yes.  This was very depressing to watch.  Nunes is lost out there and we need to look at alternatives.  I sense that Shaw understands this but is not ready to pull the trigger yet.  Hogan was in for more and more of the game.  Our defense held them to 17 points and scored a defensive TD.  In our two losses, the only points we scored were off defensive TD's.  Our defense won't be able to continue to bail us out.

And for those of you who think we have a realistic shot of beating Oregon, I have some swampland I would like to sell you.=)

OSU and @ UCLA are winnable and I expect us to win both.  That is the homer in me.  Oregon is going to beat a bloodbath.  We probably lose that even if Luck and Fleener suit up.

EDIT: Meant to say the only TD's scored in the two losses were defensive TD's.

Oregon scored 70 today against a terrible team, and they called off the dogs in the second half or they probably would have gotten to 150.  I'm on record saying they won't score 70 against us.  If they get to 40 we're toast, maybe 30.  If we can hold them in the 14-24 range we've got a shot.  That's a tall order for any defense.  The thing is, the offense simply MUST have some sustained drives.  Oregon goes so quickly that each of their possessions only lasts 2-3 minutes.  If we're going three and out, they just get so many more chances.  They have so many big-play weapons that your defense can play an outstanding game but it only takes a few blown coverages and missed tackles to make the game look lopsided.
