Starting the 2015 recruiting class thread with the news that Stanford offers Virginia DB Garrett Taylor from the Class of 2015.  Got to love those Virginian DBs.  He joins CJ Sanders (son of Ohio St great Chris Sanders) as the only two high school sophomores to hold offers from Stanford.

I wonder why Shaw hasn't gone ahead and offered high school All-American Canton Kaumatule (Luke's younger brother), who is high on us.

They probably don't have to offer this soon.  Letting him know we are watching probably enough for now.  The key will be older bro Luke's development and -- inside the family-- Luke's recommendation.  Without that, we are probably toast.  With it...who knows?
We have something of reservoir of good will w/ the Kaumatele family.  We stuck by our offer to Luke even though he tore up his knee pretty seriously in his senior HS season.  Major brownie points with the Kaumatele family have been reported.  But, we could still lose out. If Luke doesn't develop as a TE it could affect the K The Younger's perception of Stanford.

This is well beyond the typical speculation about recruits. Do you know the family personally? The reason I ask is that several years ago someone made a similar coment about Teyo Johnson's recruitment on the bootleg. It infuriated the Johnson family, mostly because the poster was simply blowing smoke about their personal relationships.

That's not well beyond typical speculation.  That's a fairly reasonable third-party observation given what's publicly available.

The class also features the third Peat brother, Cassius, who's been described as the most athletic of the clan.

According to Rivals, we've made three offers so far:

DB (1):
Garrett Taylor

WR (1):
CJ Sanders

LB (2)
Alden Key
Jashon Cornell

Also a plethora of high-quality QBs interested in us (though none as yet have been offered).

EDIT: Jashon Cornell of Minnesota apparently just got offered.

We tend not to offer QBs until after they compete against each other at a Stanford Junior Day - that's how Burns got the nod over Bateman and Browne. I would expect one of Ricky Town or Josh Rosen to get an offer before the beginning of the next season.

Also, I seem to recall reading a while back that there might be red flags for Kaumatule the younger in terms of grades.

or "might be in trouble"

except that pretty soon it's SO general that it offers no insight while it's supposedly not offending anyone.  After a while common sense kicks in.  Do Stanford's chances increase or decrease if older bro Luke never joins the other TEs who made their mark in college and went on to the pros?  Do Stanford's chances increase or decrease if inside the family Luke bad mouths the program or expresses disappointment in how his career turned out?

That depends on a lot of factors.  But I think the Stanford degree is a compelling factor in any case.  If Canton has poor grades, that may be an issue :(

Canton had mediocre grades his freshman year which I believe Stanford ignores. He could have done great his second year of HS.

And I'm sure we'll offer Cassius Peat this summer. He's not the last of the Peat brothers though. I believe they have 2 more younger brothers in grade school/jr high.

Canton had an offer at one point.

in addition to Arden Key, at least one service has us offering Jashon Cornell, a DE/OLB from MN

If somehow things don't work out with Keller Chryst, here's a QB from 2015 that  is interested.

“Stanford, I’ve been up there and met the coaching staff when Coach Jim Harbaugh was there. I would apply to the school if it had nothing to do with football. The offense is something I may have to get used to but it’s a great school with a great winning percentage and two great quarterbacks in Andrew Luck and John Elway. Plus northern California is awesome.”

Why an either/or? I'm sure the coaches will push for Chryst, plus an elite QB next year. (247's #2 overall prospect, Ricky Town, is also somewhat interested in us.)

Some quotes from Rosen about his experience:

Quote:“I view it as an incredible school, an incredible football program and an incredible staff that I have met so far and an incredible blend of athletics and academics,” Rosen said of Stanford. “So regardless of their three No. 1 draft picks at quarterback, I’d view it just as highly as I do.”

And:
Quote:“What stood out the most to me, I really loved Coach Shaw’s coaching style. He seemed real mellow and mild-tempered but seemed real hands-on with coaching me. (Quarterbacks) Coach (Mike) Sanford is a real lead by example guy and can do everything he coaches. (Offensive Coordinator) Coach Bloomgren is a very good coordinator as far as his offense.”

Apparently he doesn't believe in the existence of our football program,  doesn't believe in the existence of our staff and Stanford touts a blend of athletics and academics that cannot be believed.

Still no news about Rosen getting an offer, but two other 2015 campers received theirs.
