Well, your Hawkeye neighbor is back. Big Chicago Fire fan here (as my username would indicate). Yes, we have been an abyss this decade. However, we were one of the highest attended and most successful teams in MLS for our first dozen years. Hopefully, Paunovic helps turn this around.

He's a very good all-around defender. Takes penalties for Stanford and is quite good at it. Can attack a bit, and look good at it, but it isn't a strength yet. I doubt he'll be disappointing and I think he'll be pretty good.

No. Hearing Vincent was who the Fire wanted all along and a trade was in the works as long as he fell to #4 (he was a consensus top 5 pick). He wouldn't have started immediately in Seattle. He will in Chicago, and he has a coach who has proven he can develop young players.

Hearing the trade to Seattle could be our former starter (and very good) left back from the Trinidad & Tobago NT, Joevin Jones.

Big kid, solidly built, so not lightning fast, but difficult to body off the ball and a great shielder.  Good man marker; he shut down (to the extent that opposing coaches moved them to attack Stanford's right back) several of the best offensive players in the country through the last four rounds of the NCAAs this year.  Defensive captain on a really solid defense this year.

HEAVY left foot, and good left-footed service from the halfline on in.  Not great at cutting back onto his right.  Solid in the air.

Given the choice, you'd probably want to pair him with a faster attacking right back.

His USMNT call up will be interesting, given all of the NT's problems at left back over the years.  Could definitely be a more defensively minded alternative to Yedlin.

Thanks for the observations! So we essentially swap a VERY good attacking, international left back for a more physical young prospect. Sounds a lot like our right back. Either Paunovic won't ask for a lot of overlapping runs from our outside defenders, or we will upgrade at RB, and pick him up via the international market.
