It took me a little bit to understand why Cal controls our home territory given the last several Big Games, but I've got it now (Stanford lost to SC, who lost to Wazzu, who lost to Cal). Aside from the dubious choice of initially giving Santa Clara County to SJSU instead of Stanford, this seems like a really fun way of reimagining the college football season.Â
Big Game would have a massive amount of land on the line, but only if both teams continue winning, which would put Stanford at 8-2 (7-1) and Cal at 7-3 (4-3). Cal's path to that game is doable (Arizona at home, at Colorado, Oregon State at home), while Stanford's is obviously much more difficult (at OSU, at Wazzu, vs. UW). Seems like that's our last big shot at land acquisition, since ASU's win over UW wiped out the Huskies, who go against similarly landless UCLA and Oregon before our matchup with them.Â
It would be lovely were that to come to pass, because while the obviously most important thing would be to beat Cal and take its land for our own, there would be that little fringe benefit of winning the Pac-12 North.
