Do conferences matter or not? Washington gets a New Years six bowl. Yet they lost the division to Stanford. Sure, Washington has a better overall record. Helped by the fact that they didnt have to play SC and they had a creampuff non-league schedule.
So, just like I have a bright line rule for the final four conference champions only I have the same for the New Years six. If you dont play for a conference championship you dont get in.
Of the five power five conference championship losers the two not in are of course Stanford and TCU. Miami is in despite crawling to the finish line. But at least they played in their conference championship game. And of course its all about money anyway. Nothing else really matters. The players certainly dont. The fans certainly dont. Money talks. The rest of it is irrelevant
