Wilner has a nice report on Spring practice:

And we thought our QBs had a problem locking their eyes onto the intended receiver ...
[from the article]

I wouldn’t discount one of the freshman tackles, whether it’s Devery Hamilton (redshirt), Foster Sarell (true) or Walker Little (true), ultimately joining Bright as the staring tandem.

I had to stare at that post a long time before I got the joke.

Speights's downhill running reminded me of Toby Gerhart.

I kind of hope not. Speights is listed as 5'8", 205 lbs. Gerhart was listed as 6'1" and 235 lbs. Gerhart would actively seek out defensive players to run through. I really hope Speights doesn't do likewise. If he does, he has a death wish  ;D

5'8" 205 is what Maurice Jones-Drew was listed as at UCLA. You can be a punishing runner at that size.

I think Stanford lists Speights as 5' 11".

You are absolutely correct. I looked it up and then typed 8. My bad. Still, I would suggest that, while Speights can be a very strong, punishing running back, it is probable that he will do so in a style that differs significantly from Gerhart. The 30 lbs difference in weight does matter.

Speights and Toner stole the show I'd say.  #19 at QB (Richardson?) was surprising.  His throwing mechanics were different, but he seemed to more consistently make the right decisions.  I wouldn't count him out...

You heard it here a year ago... :)  I'm rooting for him, and would think Shawn would play him over a true freshman if needed based on playbook/system knowledge etc.

Well, he certainly has the golden of all golden opportunities to make a statement.
