Andrea Lee is absolutely on fire to start the final round. Four under already through her first six holes. Card in prime position to qualify for match play round.

Pretty much done with the back nine and so far we are at -3 for the day, second only to SC's -4. Andrea Lee is blistering today; playing the back nine at 5 under!

You know who really screwed the pooch today? Arizona: +20 when the next highest score is +9 (Alabama, interestingly enough). They went from 3rd place to a tie for 10th, 3 holes back of #8 Baylor.

Andrea Lee makes birdie on her final hole and ties the course record with a final round 65! Shannon Aubert also under par today with a fantastic 71. The team really struggled on holes 5 and 6. Hulk has emphasized their difficulty. Stanford was +6 on those 2 holes and that does not count Emily Wang's quintuple bogey 9 on #6. But the team was -3 on the other 16 holes and has locked up the #5 slot in match play. They will play Northwestern tomorrow in the quarterfinals.
Stay tuned for the head to head matchups which are determined by coach's picks later this evening. It is NOT necessarily #1 player vs #1 player, #2 player vs #2 player, etc. Northwestern as the higher seeded team will get to decide if they want to pick first or defer to Stanford and make Coach Walker put out the first player.

I didn't get to watch the end of the round today, but I see she wound up tied for 2nd overall. That's great.
I remember one putt that seemed to hang on the lip (from the angle shown on the broadcast). And another "almost".
The broadcast seemed to be a special on Alabama's Cheyenne Knight. I saw a bit of her fall before I had to turn off the golf.

The scoreboard I'm looking at shows Arizona as tied for 8th with "ties will be resolved". It shows them as +17 today, with Alabama as +11.
3 and maybe 4 PAC-12 teams will be in the match play.

Stanford will be playing a very experienced team in Northwestern. They were the #1 team for much of last season and lost to ASU in the national finals. 4 of their 5 players return from that team.
Stanford counters with a solid core of Lee, Valenzuela and Aubert who return from last year's team that lost to ASU in the semis. Aubert in fact is perhaps the most experienced NCAA match play contestant of all time. She has played in match play all 4 years at Stanford.
Liu and Wang did not compete in the NCAAs last year. Wang did get match play experience at the East Lake Cup in the fall vs ASU and U.SC. Northwestern also was at that event, but Stanford did not play them.
One other note - Andrea Lee finished T2 in the individual race, the highest finish EVER for a Stanford golfer.
MT, Arizona got an EAGLE from their final player to tie Baylor. They are playing off right now for the 8th spot which will oppose UCLA tomorrow. Light is fading. Our attention turns to the press room and the announcement of the match ups. This video shows you exactly how it works. Believe me, there is a lot of strategy involved. Coach Walker must have been thinking about how she would approach this all year. Now the moment has arrived for her to decide.

With Liu and Wang not reliable this week, the path to winning has to rest heavily on the veterans - Lee, Valenzuela, Aubert. Coach Walker's approach in the past has been based more on placement among the 5 matches rather than trying to make a decision based on the specific opponent. If form holds, she will send Aubert or Valenzuela out first, hoping they can get a point on the board in the 1st match. She will save Lee for the 4th or 5th match. But does she put Aubert or Valenzuela in the 2nd match hoping for a fast start? In the 4th match to serve as a backstop if Stanford is down 2-1? We'll find out soon.

With elimination for one team riding on the outcome, ties for 8th place are broken on the golf course. Each team sends all 5 players on the course to play the same holes. Low 4 of 5 scores count. Arizona and Baylor were tied after the 1st playoff hole. Arizona was -2 and Baylor was +1 after the 2nd playoff hole. Stanford lost the national championship to Oklahoma State in a playoff in 1995 (Tiger's frosh year), though the playoff format was different.

Canalejas, there actually *was* a tie for 15th yesterday. 4 teams tied for 1 spot. And they broke the tie using scorecards - the lowest cumulative drop scores for the three rounds.
From the NCAA manual:

Weather forecast for tomorrow - starting in the 60s rising to the high 80s or low 90s in the afternoon. Light winds. No rain.
It will be a long, hot, very tiring day for the teams that advance to the semifinals in the afternoon. But I remember how our high school coach prepared us for the state tournament. We got up to practice before class, even in February and March in Oklahoma. He had us running cross country in the off season to build up stamina, knowing that the first day of state would be 36 holes. He had us practice putting at the end of the day when everyone was tired because that was how you would feel at the end of a day of competition. It was a test to maintain your concentration and your fundamentals (just like free throw shooting at the end of the game). Coach's approach worked. We won state my senior year by 24 shots.
