Hey Redrum, banked track derby or flat track?
Besides getting free Movietone News tix to Kal and Stanford I spent too much time at Kezar Pavillion, Civic and the Cow Palace watching the Bombers. If your daughter has never seen film or tape of Big Red Jensen, Anne Calvello or Joanie Weston she’s in for a treat. Add Charlie O to that.

Flat track. In the county indoor exhibition complex, the marvelously smooth concrete floor of which is alternately shared with the seasonal youth ice hockey rink and the livestock sales & exhibitions. As a SoCal boy, that kind of quaint small town-ness just tickles me no end. Total surprise that she ended up trying the sport and loving it. One of the few women's sports where contact and kicking the crap out of each other is on equal footing with skill and speed. Best part: run by women top to bottom although there are male "groupies". All the women skate under a bad-ass personal nom de guerre, usually completely at odds with their reality lives and personalities. Flat track is more common, with more than 400 multi-team leagues in U.S. The banked track is equivalent to major league baseball vs. the minors. Daughter of friends of ours skated banked track in Houston. Much bigger deal and drew pretty large crowds.

If your idea of a nightmare is waking up next to the first UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and one of the leading integrationists of her time, then my nightmares would send you six feet under. Unfortunately, they don't involve anyone so historic or inspirational, nor something so base as an SI swimsuit model...
I don't know... no matter what her accomplishments or looks, I would think it would be quite a nightmare to wake up with someone who has been dead 50+ years (especially if you woke up at her place). Seems like something straight out of Tales from the Crypt.
