To put this into context, on Stanford's first possession, the offense had driven successfully to the USC 22 yard-line for 1st and 10. After a short gain by Montgomery, a holding penalty on Peat and a tripping penalty on Johnny Caspers, Stanford found itself with 3rd and 32 at the USC 44. Remound Wright then got a 12-yard gain to make it 4th and 20 at the 32 yard-line. Williamson came on and promptly missed the 49-yard FG.(01-05-2019, 04:40 PM)qwerty49 Wrote: 1. Name a left-footed Stanford punter (there are at least two)
2. When was the last time Stanford punted on 3rd down? (Sorry to bring back bad memories)
3. IIRC Shaw punted from the Northwestern 37 and also from the $C 32. Has Stanford ever punted from closer than the 32?
4. (I don't know the answer): Bailey got off an 86-yd punt for a touchback in the Sun Bowl. What's the longest, non-touchback punt in Stanford history?
Didn't Shaw punt from the 29 during the 10-13 loss to U$C on 9/6/14? I seem to recall the punt went into the end zone for a net nine yard punt.

On the second possession of the game, the offense moved down to the USC 17 (1st and 10). Kelsey Young gained 4 yards, but on the next play, Montgomery fumbled the ball for a 16-yard loss. After an incomplete pass, Stanford found itself with 4th and 22 at the USC 29 (three yards closer than the last FG attempt). This time, Shaw opted not to send Williamson onto the field and punted from the 29. Net gain after the touchback: 9 yards.

A very frustrating game in a very frustrating year. We would repeatedly march deep in U$C territory and come away with nada.
The year caused some of the same gloom and doom predictions for 2015 that we are hearing now for 2019.

Who replaced Gene Washington as QB in 66?
I think it was Marquess, wasn't it?
I think Chuck Williams was in '67.
Now my memory is going bad.
