I think the other guy in the photo is the great Ron Clarke. Mills won the 10,000 in one of the greatest upsets in Olympic history. At the same Tokyo Games Bob Schul won the 5,000. Never happened before for the Americans and probably never happen again.

Here comes Mills look at Mills. I watch the 10K on you tube every couple of months.

What a finish. I read that the announcer who yelled out got fired by NBC for upstaging Bud Palmer, who seemed to have no clue what was going on.
We’re just kids, Bobbk. Phogge’s heartthrob was Lily Langtry.

Those people haven't seen him in a game.
Anyway, if Costello does get injured I hope you are right.
Of course, the $64 question is will his knee hold up.
I hadn’t seen Luck in a game before knowing. It only took one throw before the spring game freshman year to know.

Dick Bank fired then immediately hired by CBS and had a long career with them.
I used to work with Palmer on the Duke Kanamoku Surfing for Wide World. Nice guy, airhead. Best thing about the trips was hauling azz down the Kamehameha Highway and then throwing the rental wagon into reverse. Anybody remember the monkeys at the Pearl City Tavern?
Wasn’t a fan of the M Mouse Club although I did audition. Loren was the Babe Ruth of women. Ava Gardner was Lou Gehrig.

OK, that's fine. I just hope Mills's knee holds up so the hypothesis that he is better than Costello can be tested.

Yup. Got fired. Had to threaten legal action to get paid.

BTW, and BobbK would remember better than me, but didn't Dick Bank announce the USA/USSR dual track meets, one of which was at Stanford in 1962? Of the 19 USA vs. USSR meets, the Stanford meet was most notable in that 150,000 people attended over two days, at the time the largest crowds ever for a non-Olympic competition.
Obligatory trivia: two world records were set during the 1962 Stanford USA v. USSR track meet, one by an American, one by a Russian. Can you name them?

Agree with Phogge on the records.
BTW both Phogge and I were part of the two day 170,000 fans present. No clue who announced

Don Bragg in PV.
I think a Russian in the 100.
I went with my dad on Bragg’s day.

Ah what NFL Hall of Famer won the 100?
Hint QWERTY not a Russian
I missed one world record. Hint his son was an excellent Stanford track and field athlete

Bob Hayes. And we were all sorta correct. Bragg set the WR at the Olympic Trials in 1960 in the Stadium. His girlfriend jumped onto the track from the stands and they embraced at the PV pit. Turns out it had been orchestrated. I was loading film magazines right near there.
Brumel set the WR at the Soviet US meet, 7’5”. Boston won but no record. The other WR was set by Harold Connolly in the hammer.
