The ranking info seems interesting--they had her misclassified as Class of 2016, and they'll be updating her ranking information to reflect her age? As always, we never really know who we're getting when it comes to international players due to being outside the TRN ranking system and because ITF rankings can be so variable. Her UTR is listed as 12, but I don't know if that's 11.55 rounded up, or 12.4 rounded down, since I'm not a premium member. That said, going into the NCAA championship match last year, here were Stanford's UTRs:
11.71 - Gordon
11.65 - Lampl
11.58 - Lord
11.45 - Arbuthnott
11.23 - Shin
10.83 - Madurawe
10.75 - Higuchi
10.51 - Choy
So, even a score that would round to 12 would put Geller the Younger in the top half of our lineup. A note of caution, however: junior UTRs are often higher than collegiate UTRs, because someone of, say, Arbuthnott's caliber is no longer playing the best players like she would in tournament play, but the 4th-best team on the opponent of the week. But it seems safe to say that she'll belong.
In any even, here's another interesting result that bears mention: Geller lost in three sets (7-5 in the third) to Vanderbilt's Georgia Drummy, the week before she lost to Gauff. Recall that Drummy started the year at #3 singles for Vanderbilt, but climbed over the course of the year and was Vanderbilt's #1 by the end of the year, even over the great Fernanda Contreras. (Lampl needed a third-set tiebreaker to beat Drummy at #3 in February.)
Here's a quick look at our current scholarship roster math (we're finally balanced after the departure of the great class of Lord, Lampl, and Yee):
Seniors: Arbuthnott and Higuchi
Juniors: Gordon and Shin
Sophomores: Choy and Madurawe
