In 1991, USC was riding a streak of ridiculous domination over Stanford. Since 1957, the Trojans had only lost 3 times to Stanford plus one tie. Stanford's last win vs. USC was in 1975. Even when Stanford was in a position to prevail, USC always seemed to find a way to pull out the victory.
But 1991 was different. Dennie Green had changed the mindset of the team. He wanted a physical style of play that could run the ball reliably. In 1991, the pieces were in place with an experienced QB Steve Stenstrom, a great RB tandem of Tommy Vardell and Glyn Milburn and a true frosh left tackle named Bob Whitfield. Enjoy earlier highlights and then the final minutes of a fantastic come-from-behind victory. Look for young WR #84 David Shaw to make an appearance as well.
