Saturday, the 1999 Rose Bowl team will be honored.

“After that game [at Texas], we knew nothing could be worse,” says Heitmann. “It really brought us together.”

I wonder if there is symbolism.

Fun fact, that game is responsible for h*ge being auto-replaced on this board.  You can thank Teejers (I think) for that.

Yes, it was Teejers.

He also came up with the best line ever. After Texas beat us by like 50 points, he walked into a bar in Austin wearing his Stanford gear and was asked what in the world had happened to his team. Without missing a beat, completely deadpan (as I remember the story...) he said, “the refs fucked us.”

[Phogge]

H*uge would have been better than Texas beat the ever living crap out of Stanford like nobody has since the UCLA 72-0 game in 1954.

Actually they did. By showing up for the game.

No one is discussing the game at the Farm the following year where the cocky, arrogant "Hook 'em, Horns" Texas fans saw Stanford roar back for a revenge victory.  Whether the revenge was hot or cold, it was certainly sweet.

True.  But if you would like to relive that game, here it is.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DclO5GX0izs  Yes, it was truly sweet revenge, even though the 2000 season was not as memorable as 1999.

What's cool in this upset is that Stanford beat the Longhorns with their second string QB, Chris Lewis, who had to jump in after the starter, Randy Fasani, was injured in the early part of the game.  Big win.  And it followed a complete implosion against San Jose State the previous week.
