I was able to get home in time to see part of the game on TV.  I thought we would be buried but we seem to have put up a very good fight.  I can't find a box score anywhere.

I got misty eyed when Nneka came out of the game, hugged Tara, and went down the Stanford bench.  Wow.

Defending both Fowles and Nneka simultaneously was almost impossible. They tried and it was great education for Belibi and Prechtel. Felt badly for Fingall, who landed awkwardly on her knee and thereafter appeared to have limited lateral mobility.
But Carrington was great, and Kiana stuck w Bird and Lexie also played well.
The future is bright - just wish Maya weren’t in a boot!

all 4  freshmen looked great. no fear.  i was particularly impressed with belibi and jump - on both offense and defense. prechtel is a block machine. haley can play point guard - reminds me of diana taurasi.

Well, Williams certainly broke her slump, and Lexie Hull seems to be fully back.  Two excellent pieces of news!  Hopefully they can bottle that and pour it out in every game.

Jerome and Belibi and Prectel and Fingal returned to the planet earth--they were up against bigger and better defenders and it showed.

Carrington was fantastic.  A fearless senior was just what we needed today.

And Jones gets her first minutes.

It was such a great atmosphere... Stanford played very well against the olympians... I definitely needed this distraction and was so glad that I was able to make it... it was nice to see quite a few Stanford greats at the game... Briana Roberson, Sebmen kimyacioglu, Susan King Borchardt, and Chiney all walked by were I was sitting... I wish I had more nerve to say hi and ask for a picture ??‍♂️

So much to like from this game.  Big games from our leaders Carrington and Williams.  However, I would like to give a shout out to 2 players.  The first is Lexie Hull who has such a high motor.  On the defensive end she moved her feet so well to stay in front of the player she is guarding and she had hands in the passing lanes all the time.  On the offensive end she seems to be finishing much better than her freshman year.  And the second is to Hannah Jump who I think is going to be seeing more playing time as a frosh than I thought.  We will face a lot of zones this year and we will need people to hit 3-pointers or mid-range jump shots to force teams out of zones and Jump looks like that zone buster we haven't had since Karlie Samuelson graduated.

Interesting that we played a 2-3 zone for much of the game. Team USA attacked it by getting the ball to a big in the high post who then drove the lane, took a mid-range jumper or passed out to a wing for a 3. It was very effective for them (we eventually started collapsing on the ball better as the game went on). Wonder if we might try doing the same with Belibi and/or Prechtel. Maybe too much to put on the freshmen but they did look good out there!
