I don’t doubt that UConn will be in the tournament, it might just be as an unfamiliar seed this year depending on how things play out. Say, if UConn is a 6 seed instead of a 1, their road becomes that much harder to the Final Four. An off day against a three seed could doom them, before having to trudge through a 2 seed, and a 1 seed just to get to the Final Four. They’re certainly capable, just becomes a tougher road.

UConn's freshman class is outstanding. Probably because the San Diego students will only miss one school day (Monday) since they can travel home after the game. Possible they simply couldn't get the team up to Palo Alto by Saturday to play on Sunday as scheduled vs. Pacific.
My view is we're lucky to have games at all given these conditions, so I'll take it and be grateful.

In WVB Stanford usually gets preferential treatment in tournament seeding based on reputation. The seeding committee just expects Stanford will end up in the final four even if they stumbled early in the season.
If anyone finds out about live stream of USD game, please post. After watching the Cal Poly game, I'm becoming a WBB fan.

The time may be to get the appropriate testing done, with the results back in time to decide about travel, plus getting the flight here (plus perhaps approval to take a flight). For a 2PM Monday game, the PCR tests have to be taken AFTER 2PM Saturday, and then be back before the game (and, presumably, before gathering for the flight). The recommendation is to travel by motor vehicles when possible, but it is a long drive. I can imagine that they are taking an early (8AM-10AM) flight from San Diego, rather than Sunday afternoon and having to stay in a hotel.
To make a Sunday 2PM game would have required testing after Friday 2PM. But maybe they couldn't line up testing with results back quickly enough.

3) Oregon Jan 8

My guess is that they will fill in their normal patsies, that UConn will play at least once during the first week of January before Baylor, and twice in the second week of January, and once in the third week before going to Tennessee. Of course everything is up in the air. New games will be scheduled and additional games will be cancelled. It is almost random at this point. But however you look at it, Tara just lost her advantage over Geno in the race to the Summitt.
But to keep this in perspective, I am sure that Tara at doesn't care about the "race." She is probably just mourning for her team, which has so much promise and so desperately wants to play. And yet the disappointment of not playing is minor compared with the projected 400k+ deaths and millions of permanently damaged human beings before the vaccines finally put an end to this scourge.

UConn has an incomplete schedule listed in the new year. Who knows who they will be playing. All that shows so far is

My guess is that they will fill in their normal patsies, that UConn will play at least once during the first week of January before Baylor, and twice in the second week of January, and once in the third week before going to Tennessee. It is therefore likely, depending on how UConn does against Baylor, that Geno will pass Pat before Jan 14 or so.
Of course everything is up in the air. New games will be scheduled and additional games will be cancelled. It is almost random at this point. But however you look at it, Tara just lost her advantage over Geno in the race to the Summitt.
But to keep this in perspective, I am sure that Tara at doesn't care about the "race." She is probably just mourning for her team, which has so much promise and so desperately wants to play. And yet the disappointment of not playing is minor compared with the projected 400k+ deaths and millions of permanently damaged human beings before the vaccines finally put an end to this scourge.
But I will count this as one more depressing side effect of this annus horribilis.
UConn has 4 games scheduled during that stretch. If Geno wins them all--and why wouldn't he--he and Tara will be exactly tied at 1095 by the end of this calendar year, each of them needing 4 wins to surpass Pat.

I just looked at the WBB gostanford website. There is no announcement of Monday's game being cancelled. Has there been an official announcement? Would events scheduled for Monday be given a grace period under the new Santa Clara Covid policy?
