Another tight Colorado game until the end, final score 50-38. A good win from Stanford's pov as far as Pac 12 tournament seedings are concerned. But Arizona was without Aari Macdonald, who has a "lower leg injury," was on the bench in a boot for both this game and the Utah game on Friday.

ASU loses to Utah 71-75 and UW up on UCLA at the half 32-28 may the upset trend continue!

Definitely let the trend continue, including tomorrow night. But UCLA-Wash, that too. Watching the game right now. It's very tight at 39 Wash - 32 UCLA. There are no "easy" wins in this conference. Colorado in particular deserves to be in the NCAA tournament, but highly unlikely to make it. Not enough respect for the meat-grinder the Pac-12 has become.

UW closes it out against UCLA, after nearly pulling a Stanford men ending - turtling offensively and putting the opponent on the FT line again and again. A 12 point lead with 3:30 left got down to 4, and the Huskies’ frosh post Bamberger went down with a non-contact clutching the back of her right knee injury.
But Melgoza and company toughed it out, 74-68.

What a day of Pac-12 WBB. Arizona, ASU, UCLA all go down. Let the trend continue tomorrow night. (For Cal-OSU today, yet to come, I have mixed feelings, given that I grew up as a Beaver and have a grad degree from Cal. But to make it clear to all, my WBB heart totally belongs to Stanford)

Pending the results of OSU-Cal, even assuming we lose to Oregon tomorrow, we're in line for a number 2 seed in the PAC-12 tournament with a desert sweep. One of two gets us third place. Lose both and we are in fourth. At stake is avoiding Oregon until the finals (so 2 or 3 seed is desirable), and, more marginally, avoiding the #6 team in the quarterfinals. The top half of the PAC-12 is stacked, so regardless of whether it's ASU or OSU that ends up 6th, it'd probably(?) be better to face U$C. On the other hand, they've looked much, much better recently, and multiple wins in the PAC-12 would be essential for U$C to be in the running for an NCAA bid, so maybe you take the devil you know over the one you don't?

If we win out in the dessert, the UCLA loss today means we get the number 2 seed no matter what happens to OSU-Cal. And we're also #2 even if we win all three remaining games. The key is to take at least 2 of the last 3, no matter who it is we beat. As for OSU and where they get seeded, I hope we can avoid them. I really fear seeing OSU again in the tournament. As Tara said many years ago, beating the same team 3 times in a season is very difficult. And neither of the 1st two wins were easy or pretty.

I see a few other folks beat me to the punch, though I was waiting for the Bruins to lose. Isn't this the best non-game day for us this year? We still have a potential Arizona "problem," but don't we just need to win one of three remaining games to lock up second or third, thus (assuming we win in the Pac-12 Tourney) avoiding facing Oregon until the final--again, assuming we and they get there?
Having said that, and believing Oregon when "on" is unbeatable, I am not conceding ANY of our last three games. We beat Oregon in each of the past two years, right? The Arizonas look at least a little vulnerable now, perhaps even at home. Let's just win tomorrow and carry on.

I find it weird that I know more about Aari McDonald's injury than that of any of our own players.

Today went about as well as we could possibly have hoped for.
2006 has it figured out.
Now, if we win tomorrow against Oregon, the sky is the limit, but assuming for the sake of argument that we lose......
Now also assume that Cal doesn't beat Arizona in the desert, and that UCLA wins its last two against the mountain schools at home....
Then:
Winning both in the desert guarantees us 2nd place.
Winning 1 game in the desert against either team keeps us ahead of both Arizona schools and guarantees 3rd place
Losing both in the desert would drop us behind both UCLA and Arizona into fourth place.
The likely first round opponents based on standings today in the Pac 12 tourney would be:
If 2nd place then I'm not sure whether it would the winner of a Utah or USC vs Washington State game. I think it could come down to whether Utah or SC wins when they play next weekend at SC. I'm going to guess SC
If 3rd place then it looks like the winner of an Oregon State vs. Washington game. Or most likely Oregon State for a third time--although last year Washington beat Oregon State in the Pac 12 tournament.
If 4th place then it looks like the winner of and Arizona State vs. Cal game. Most likely Arizona State, and just 5 days after playing them a moderate drive away in Tempe.
3rd place and 4th place look like bad matchups for us, because we don't want to play Oregon State a third time, and we don't want to play Arizona State in front of a de facto home crowd in Las Vegas. We really want to close strong and win at least 2/3.

8 top 25 teams lost to lower ranked teams today, nationally. A true bloodletting. 9 Mississippii State, 12 DePaul, 17 Florida State, 22 Arkansas, to go with the 4 Pac 12 schools.

Rueck employed a really interesting strategy after OSU had 0 points from anyone not named Jones-Pivec-Slocum and 1 assist total at the half: he benched all three and made the rest of the team take ownership. It worked, Maddie Washington went on an 8-0 run, and they rapidly got separation from Cal. Look for that strategy if we see them again -- players not named JPS scored a grand total of 7 points against us. Although we all fretted that it was Gladys Knight/Kiana Williams and the 7 Pips on Friday, the main reason we won on Friday was that we had 7 more Pips than OSU did...

Good for him... Sounds like what we saw in Stanford WBB WVB. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kiana sit for longer than usual if we get well ahead in either of our last 2 games in the regular season or the first of the conference.
