100,000 known deaths from COVID-19 in the US. Yes, an arbitrary round number that ends in zero doesn't really change the reality on the ground, but still it is sad to see us cross this death toll.

A very sad milestone. And next month, we will likely hit 2 million American COVID-19 cases.
There are three other milestones expected tomorrow:
1. Another 2 million+ filing initial unemployment claims, climbing past the 40 million mark since 3/14.
2. Durable goods orders are predicted to drop 18%, following a 14.7% decline in March.
3. First quarter GDP growth will face a revision. Currently, it is a 4.8% annualized drop.
Friday will bring the personal income (7% drop) and personal spending (12% drop) releases. Both drops will be the worst ever recorded.

We likely hit the 2 million COVID-19 cases a long time ago; it will be 2 million confirmed diagnoses, but we almost certainly have had many more infections. Just in New York City, 1 in 5 people were found to have antibodies to COVID-19, which means that something like 1.6 million people had COVID-19.

Re-upping this thread to mark crossing of another arbitrary round number now that Johns Hopkins' tracker reports 200,000 deaths. It has taken us about four months to go from 100,000 to 200,000, so it would take a bad wave to hit 300,000 in November or December. And yet, some of the early estimates looked at 240,000 deaths as catastrophic, and yet, we will soon be there.
