Wow, COVID-19 has been devastating to colleges:

Freshman enrollment has dropped more than 16 percent from last year at American colleges and universities — and by nearly a quarter at community colleges — as the threat of the coronavirus has disrupted the nation’s higher education system, the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center reported Thursday.

I've also seen that a lot of families with young children are deferring entry into kindergarten.

A lot of K-12 students have also opted out of public education in favor of alternative options, and this is leading to a decline in K-12 educational funding as well (because it is dependent on enrollment figures).

I think international student enrollment has dropped significantly - perhaps, close to zero.

There are a lot of foreign grad students on campus at Stanford.

There are also some foreign undergrads on campus in grad student housing.

Sadly, this was all predictable.  
The declines would extend beyond a concern about testing positive for COVID.   Some would opt out because a year of toggling between remote, hybrid, limited in class all without any group learning or large social events would be too much.   Then others would come from families that simply need an 18-22 year-old in the labor force earning money or watching (teaching) younger siblings to help the family avoid financial ruin.

But this is just the first part of the story.  Hard for me to believe all schools had long range strategic plans that would cover enrollment drops like the types we have this year.

The K-12 schooling has been tough and very expensive.  If Dec-Mar COVID rates fall into the currently projected ranges, then schools and families are going to have a very hard time maintaining some form of normalcy.
