It is interesting that they are keeping starting OLB Gabe Reid as second string ILB instead of moving him back to starting OLB. They must figure that they need a 3 man rotation at ILB and feel better about Andres Fox and DiCosmo as backup OLB than they do about Jorgensen and TBD rotating in at ILB.  Good thing that this is only a 6 game season as we will run out of bodies soon at defense. Offenese has been remarkably healthy outside of WR.

This is the first time DiCosmo has been healthy, and he's an ILB (AFAIK), so that's not a correct statement.

Gabe Reid played some ILB and OLB against UW. Was clearly better at OLB (obviously). If he still plays mostly ILB, that would portend an arrow down on DiCosmo as it says we'd rather have Keck play a bunch of OLB than have DiCosmo do any rotating at all at ILB.

Over the past 2 years of Stanford football coming down with what amounts to the plague, it's notable that DL is the only position to go completely unscathed.

This is the first time DiCosmo has been healthy, and he's an ILB (AFAIK), so that's not a correct statement.

What I really don't understand is this math is not that hard.  I get that lots of variables go into finding linebackers who are both good athletes and would pass admissions and would come, but if you are running behind then it makes sense to over-offer for a year or two to catch up.  This seemed to fix our offensive line woes after Bloomberg left, and I was hoping that Hansen's departure, but alas...

We can always hope for 2022.

You have to squint to see it, but I also noticed it briefly on the sidelines during the TV broadcast - Wedington's wrist appears to be in a cast.  Wilson's ankle/foot was in a boot - I'm presuming it's a high ankle sprain.  My non-medical opinion was formed based on a post-game photo of the receivers group and Bobby Kennedy on Twitter. If this is right, the good news on a human level is that neither Wilson nor Wedington would seem to have an awful year-long rehab in front of them.

Just thinking that there are three freshmen TE's with size and Justus Woods goes 220 lbs and will not be getting many snaps at RB. Are any good enough to play ILB? Also if Wedington comes back there are Wilson, Fehoko, St. Brown, Farrell and others in the WR room. So can Higgins gain 15 pounds and be a stud TE? There are precedents; Ron Kadziel comes to mind at LB.

We tried that with Andrew Pryts. No thanks. Ironically I also believe we could've tried it with Stuart Head, but it turns out he was terrible at football anyways. Wonder where the portal will take him.

If Josh Moore recommits, I'd be in favor of putting some weight on him and trying him there off the bat (instead of moving a guy like Pryts there 2-3 years in). He's 6'2" 200 and moves well (Tristan Sinclair was 6'2" 207 as a freshman), and we don't need 4 safeties in the class.

Pattitucci played two ways just before the NCAA liberalized the substitution rules. John Read was shifted after his sophomore season from FB to LB. Somebody on this board has great knowledge of the move. Blaine Nye and George Buehler changed positions and I think Gerin Veris played a bit of TE. All three had good NFL careers. Pat Donovan went from an All America DE to a starting OT for Dallas. Greg Sampson was a first round pick as a DT and ended up an OT for the Oilers.

Just saying that with the catastrophe in the LB corps perhaps they should consider some position moves in the spring.

IIRC Pettigrew was the star of the Stanford boxing team as well.  Hard hits all around.
