Some dip being interviewed on Sirius XM ESPNU said he liked the hire because he was familiar with sports betting and that's the future of college football revenue. Uh-oh!

He will apparently be hiring a person dedicated to relationships between the Pac-12 and the schools. Relationship management will be very important, especially for someone who does not come from the Pac-12.

To me, that was the biggest danger with this hire.

Okay, he lost me when talking about how the focus is going to be football and men's basketball. Didn't even give a shoutout to WBB for having two freakin' teams in the bball final. I hope I interpreted this wrong.

The way I read his quotes was that he recognizes the importance of bringing in more revenue, and the two biggest sources of revenue are football and men's basketball.
I think you can make a very strong case that there is much more room for growth in women's basketball, but if you are talking about optimizing revenue right now, you follow Willie Sutton's advice - you focus on football and men's basketball, "because that is where the money is".

It doesn't make him "a football guy" but maybe "a football-adjacent guy"? It seems at least as strong as saying that Ackerman's service on the Knight commission gives her experience in intercollgiate athletics administration.

Besides being a star basketball player at UVa, Ackerman also served on both the NCAA's Women's Basketball Competition Committee and its Honors Committee, including authoring a report in 2012 on how the college women's game could be improved. She is significantly more experienced with college athletics than Kliavkoff.
If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, Cal '70, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)
